Get a copy of Motorola Phone Tools, and lie to it about what type of phone you have.
I might have a copy laying around we can work out a deal on, if ya know what I mean....

Oooooooo there is lots you can do to that puppy if it is GSM. If it'* CDMA you might have some limitations. I don't think you can hack a CDMA phone as much as I have hacked my 4 GSM RAZR'*. If you have the little "chippy thing" (as my wife calls it) in the back under the battery, I can point you in the right direction for a ton of stuff, including new themes and backgrounds. One condition, you have to load the Pittsburgh Steelers background first.
In any event, you need to start with Motorola Phone Tools.

Sell it now, Tracy. Prices are dropping.
I just got a brand new V3xx with SD slot, MP3, the new high-res display, and a better camera for $40 through cingular/AT&T.
Mobile phone tools will allow you to convert your MP3'* into ringtones. I've been using it for 3 or 4 years, and just installed it on Katie'* laptop last night for her new SLVR.
