from my experience, radar detectors cost considerably more than $140. is there a chance that you could have paid your fine with that money? i could be wrong...some people seem to find better deals than i do...so maybe you bought it cheap.
course, i don't own one myself. just wondering.

You should have used that money you spent on that detector to pay off that ticket. Then after that, DON'T speed and you WON'T need a radar detector! Pay the fine and consider it a life lesson. You need to set your priorities correctly.

Radar detectors are good and bad.

Some officers automatically write the ticket when they see one.

I have owned and used detectors for years until recently. Locally the police use instant on radar or laser. In both cases your chances of being able to slow down by knowing about the speed trap is extremely low. Typically the target has no chance to reduce speed with either of the methods used above. Therefore when my detector goes off, I would know that it'* time to pull over.

If you live in an area where they don't use instant on or laser then the detector might lend value to you. In my case I've stopped using one because there is no value.

Why not just abide by the law? If you did that, you wouldn't have to go to traffic court, nor have to buy gadgets to aid in breaking the law.

I'ma gonna get ed, but what the heck.

Not one judge will ever seem nice to you. You are mad about the ticket, and some how you have justified it in your mind that the cop was wrong and you don't deserve it. The judge is going to tell you something you don't want to hear and you know it, so to you he SEEMS mean.

Judges are rarely nice to the people they are talking to at the podium. Why? They deal with scum all day, now I am not saying you are scum, but they are also dealing with people trying to "fight the system" and they don't know how to do it. Recently, for a college class, I spent four hours observing court. This makes me no expert, but I was surprised at what I saw.

Judge: "So I see here you have entered a plea of not guilty for <insert charge here>. So tell me about what happened.

What does the defendant say? Probation violations are common, so that is our example. Judge asks if they showed up for the urine screening that they allegidly missed. Guess what? None of them say "yes." They all admit that they missed their scheduled urine screening. So then when the judge asks why he shouldn't just lock them up right there they whine and complain about how the probation is a hinderance in their life and that they went to all of the screenings before and after that one. They have in no way proved their innocence.

I don't mean this in a bad way, but what are you trying to do? So by checking the not guilty checkbox on the back of the citation you have gotten yourself a hearing. Now you are there and what do you plan on saying? Yeah I did it. This happens daily and the judges do everything short of laughing at you.

They are also used to talking to lawyers, who are usually flat out rude...so they are used to being rude back. (this is a stereotype by the way, not all lawyers are so) Just as forwarning, when that lawyer is standing next to you, the judge himself is going to step up his A game. He is going to do everything to prove to the lawyer that he knows his stuff way better than him...show him up if you will. The hearing will become more intense.

As for the radar detector, good luck with that. FYI they are cop magnets. If you get pulled over again, I would be willing to bet you are twice as likely to get a ticket. If they are behind you and they see it, they will mess with you. It will just give them an excuse to get out their shiney new radar gun, point it at you car and push the instant on. Since they are so close that detector will be screaming...and they will laugh and talk about you at the station on how hard you hit your brakes...

In light traffic, the radar detector won't do you much good. Cops can pretty much tell how fast you are going, the radar gun only confirms what they already know. They only turn it on to check what they know. The only way it will help you is if a car a little ways infront of you is speeding, but only going 8 or 9 over and they don't bother to pull him over. If will give you the warning you need. If nobody around you is going over the speed limit, they will probably never turn it on until they are tagging you. Then what good will it do you? I guess you braking hard will reduce the displayed speed by 3 or 4 MPH before they can lock it...

in heavy traffic, you probably aren't speeding, so once again the money for you radar detector is down the drain.

Best of luck...

it was only 40 bucks and protects against radar and laser I've had two officers look inside my car and both didn't say anything about having it. I don't use it soley as a means of protection I use the things infront of my face called eyes to spot highway patrol.

As for the ticket I'm not mad and I acknowledge that the officer caught me its just that I'm trying to get off with a ligher or no fine at all. Ill be honest I tend to speed even with a car with no modifications and I'm most certaint other members with modifications tend to be not as gentle with their pedals

You bought the detector after your ticket, and you've had 2 officers with the "opportunity" of looking in your car since then :?:
