O M G ! talk about gold plating...
well... according to wikipedia, gold has a melting point of ~1950*F...
so none of the intake parts would get hot enough to melt, possibly hot enough to cause discoloration maybe.... but i also see some plated exhaust components... and EGTs would most certainly get close to, if not exceeding, the metling point.

I think it would discolor badly. The gold is just a couple microns on top of the nickel. Any thicker and it would lose the reflective shine. As the trailer Queens you mention, so is this one. Look at the pics of the Rotors and Pedals of this one I lifted from the site Posted.

This car prolly has never started since they dyno'ed it before it was plated. The brakes certainly haven't been used, nor people allow to put their feet on the pedals. It'* jst for show to attract business.
Pretty awesome that the 4 rotor Mazda Engine Dyno'ed a whooping 1664 HP before plating. I imagine you would have to buy it to see what it will turn in a 1/4 mile.

so..... that'* 200 lb-ft of torque? LOL
i honestly wouldn't know the threshold of where gold discolors though, i can't say i've ever had anything that was both gold plated and i allowed to ever get above room temperature.
