I'm sorry to hear that you mom is still having so many difficulties. My thoughts are with her On the positive side, she'* got a lot of fight in her which is exactly what she needs to beat this. Having a shunt put in isn't a rare procedure, although I've seen in mostly in kids.

Keep the updates coming and keep your chin up

The neurosurgeon whom I was getting a second opinion from called back today. He agrees with Dr. Asfora that a shunt could help me. But also said there is risk involved with surgery. I kinda knew that after all they are working on the brain. So later I called Dr. Asfora office and told them I was ready for the next step of going ahead with the shunt surgery. Next week I am to go to their office in Sioux Falls to view some education materials whenever it works for me. They will be calling me back sometime between Friday and Tuesday to let me know more details. The nurse said the surgery will likely be scheduled in 2 weeks. I can expect 1 to 2 days in the hospital. I will have two incisions...one with staples in my head and the other on the right side of abdomen. I am risk for seizures but then I have been this whole time the nurse said. I fill a bit nervous already but I really don't want to continue my life like it is now either.

Natch. Let us know hwen the surgery is gonna happen Those of us who are religious can pray, and those like myself can, well, I guess we can send some good vibes or something.
Sometimes it'* a pain being an atheist... :?

Anyway, tell her we're all rooting for her to feel better.

I am sitting at my mom'* computer right now, I am home early for the Easter weekend. Last night we started talking about everything. She broke down and let me know how scared she actually was. I'm glad she let that out. I hope she learns a lot from the educational material so she feels a little better going into surgery.

Currently, her face is only swollen about 50% of what it was around Christmas. She looks a lot healthier. She can walk around herself and gets out of chairs no problem. However, not being able to have a job is probably the worst part of this. She can only sit around at home all day, VERY lonely. Yesterday my dad was at work for around 12 hours, and when he got home, she was so happy to see him, she cried.

I'm glad she opened up to you. Parents sometimes have this protective instinct not to so that they won't worry their kids. Mine have done that all my life. It'* probably a big relief for her now that she'* shared her feelings. She has always been such a strong lady but it'* very healthy that she'* open and honest so you know how best to support her. Your dad is probably pretty scared too but may not show it. Take care of them both My thoughts are with you and your family.
