Hey Andrew,

I'm really glad to hear everything went so well Hopefully with this shunt, they should be able to adjust her meds and get her feeling 1000% better.

They are talking her off the steroids over the next 10 days. She should begin to have her body go back to normal: growing hair and fingernails, gaining lost muscle tone in her legs, losing bulk from neck area.

Her only dream right now is to be able to run. She really wants to run.

WAY TO GO!!! What a victory this must be for your mom and family!
I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers still though as we know this is the healing period, but what a way to be able to look forward to the summer after this long, hard winter and her battle.

Best wishes to your family and a speedy recovery to your mom!

Glad to hear it all came out great. Sounds like she'll have a much easier/better life now, along with your family.

That hospital is huge!

I got this email from my mom, so I figured I would let her share her point of view.

Just a quick note to let you know that things are going pretty good with me. I came home already on Friday afternoon. I have no pressure in head so no pain there. I do have some pain in my abdomen where they ran the tube to drain. They used a metal tube to insert the plastic tubing into and then took out the metal tube. It runs from my right ear down my neck by my left shoulder and then down diagonally across my body to my left side. It is under my skin I can sure tell where it is by the pain. There in an incision above my belly button where it passes up. My guts are a bit sore but I am up and about. My head incision in all numb and hard feeling....really strange.

My head looks pretty gross. I cannot wash my hair for 10 days or it can get infected. I am wearing a some caps that Andrew and Shannon bought me as well as one baseball cap. So glad I have these!!! I am getting a huge black and blue spot on by my ear now. The picture is one Lee took of incision just after surgery.

My balance is improving but not 100% yet. I do believe the surgery is helping though.

I am decreasing on the steroids this week. My blood sugars are starting to get messed up. Last time I tried to go off the steroids I got super messed up and ended up in the hospital. My adrenal glands didn't kick in. So that is something you can pray about that it goes ok. So want to get rid of those pills now.
Not for the faint of heart, post surgery pic here

Not too bad. That should buff right out. I a few weeks it'll hardly be noticeable. The important thing is how much better she will feel now.

Andrew, I am so glad to hear she is already feeling better. Hopefully the steroids don't give her the same effect as last time she had stopped taking them. My Mom also takes steroids, Prednisone (sp?). It'* due to her adrenial glands not producing, and if she doesn't take her meds for a few days she starts feeling really bad. Your Mom will still be in my prayers.

I'm so happy to hear the good news! I have to admit- tears came to my eyes when I read about her remembering the camping trip game. She will continue to be in my prayers.
