I may have lucked out and gotten out of having to do anything excessive

P.*. I know no one gives a damn about this because it'* a Ford. I'm just tooting my own whistle!

Well. It went from bad to worse. Out for a Beerrun last night and BOOM. Dropped out of 3rd gear into second, lost all willingness to accelerate. Had no 1st, 3rd, or 4th. I guess I might be getting a new trans :( Alan(trans guy) said that it sounds like the 2nd roller clutch is dieing. Oh well. I needed a new tranny to hold the Lightning motor at bay!

Now starting a pool for the "Get Doug a 2003 Crown Vic transmission".

Doug... knowing Fords a little..did you check the six wiring connectors between the EEC and the trans? First rule of Ford is check the connectors and goop them. Second rule is never question why a wire can't run more than 8 inches without having a connector in line.

BeerBoost.

No, I have not yet tested the connection to the transmission from the EEC. I've pretty much concluded I'm junking the transmission and putting a better one in. At that time I will go over the wiring to the tranny and make sure it'* not corroded anywhere. And mine only has three connections on it. One for the speedo gear, one for the MLPS, and one to control the guts.

If you have an e4od in that theres an updated lever position sensor, or something like that, mounts on the top of the tranny and tells the tranny what gear you've selected on the column.

Its been a long time so bare with me. In 2002 my old 89' Grand Marquis with 185K on it started to drop out of drive when it was supposed to hit OD. After about a week it dropped in second and would not upshift. i brought it to a trans shop and explianed it and they were certian, as was I, that a new trans was needed. About and hour later he came back he said good news, its only $60. Turns out it was some sort of pressure valve or cap that keeps the pressure in the trans and fluid circulating properly. He did warn us that damage may have occured but it was good as new after the "cap" was replaced. I say drive it as litle as possible and look for little things like this.

There is one other possibility ....did you step on the trans gear selector wires again?

(that'* for the beerboost crack)

If it'* not wiring..yep..they circled the problem on the front ....didn't they
