I have a Ford question for you Ford guys, not to jack your post or anything. My dad has a 91 F-150 XLT Lariat with the 5.0L and a 3spd auto w/od, it is 4x2 and shortbed. I has started to jump and skip around when it goes into od. I have 2 questions, what kind of tranny do we have, and what the h*ll is wrong w/ it? Like I said, not to jack your post, but it kinda fits here.

Hells yes, Doug! Now you just gotta get your free instruction on the rear end, and you'll be able to whoop the Bonnie in no time!

So cool to actually see that tranny in your possession

I would guess since it'* got OD it'* the AOD. Check the shift cable maybe?

It'd be the one that hooks on to the lever like in one of the pictures I posted. Probably have a little bracket bolted onto the side of the trans that has a stud coming through and a nut that allows you to position the cable correctly. Just an idea... Oh, and check the fluid too.

13 hours and counting for rear end gear lash setting. Can't wait. I assembled the carrier tonight. Used four of the T-Bird clutches and two of the Cobra clutches. I attempted to stack one extra clutch on each side, but I don't have the rebuilt kit for side gears, so no different shims smaller that .045". So I did the factory style rebuild, jammed the cobra *-Spring in, and think I'll call it good. I suppose I'll snag a trans jack tomorrow so I can put the new trans in properly, fix my brake line, install my new trans cooler, fill 'er up, let it run about 10 minutes, then give it hell and hope my shift points don't move up too much. Otherwise, it'* another $40 for a retune....

Welp... One of two final updates in this thread. Sorry for dragging it on and on...

Gear lash didn't get set due to lack of proper sized shims. New shims arrived today, didn't get out of work in time to go finish up the rear-end. Brake line didn't come in either , so I bought some ATF(merc V) and started filling the trans. I'm 2 or 3 quarts short of having it completely full, but that doesn't matter. I was scared shitless about the exhaust manifolds leaking after the hackjob repair I did on one, and how much the pipes fought me going back on. I started it....

Oh how I missed the sweet sweet 4.6L rumble . It seriously brought a tear to my eye , knowing I am so close, yet so far away from having it on the road. The good news, is that it still runs, after three or four weeks of not running(whenever I started this thread:? ). I'm as giddy as a school girl again . I can't wait to go lay a little tread at the quarter now!!!!

As a bonus, (Ben will know what I'm talking about) the strange 1200 rpm resonance I had is now gone. Methinks that the old TC I had was a touch off balance, but no matter. My new marauder will be more than sufficient!

Doug left me a voicemail of a certain 4.6L SOHC V8 revving up earlier tonight I'll admit... I was aroused

Good to hear the sweet roar of your car, Doug! THE THUNDERCHICKEN LIVES!
