hrmmm.... interesting theory. i couldnt tell you quite honestly. ford thought this car was too good for a tach. but it doesnt slip from what i can tell, runs wide open like, well, any essex <thats what they call the 3.8> would. the only thing in the tranny system that i notice is that it hangs in first gear when the tranny is cold for too long <it gets to about 37mph, comes out of first, hangs there between gears for a good 3 seconds, seriously, 3 seconds, before it dumps into second, but the rpms stay the same, just no power> but i am told it is typical of the taurus tranny <the SHO does it too, just not as bad>. fluid looks like trash, but the level is fine.
another thing i remember too, the A/C makes this problem 10 times worse.

well, i had a look at it today. as it turns out, this is the AC cycling, but i never noticed this before though. maybe something is wrong with it, as the AC is beginning to not cut it as well anymore. man, i wish this car would hurry up and die
