That'* actually how you're supposed to ride (at least that'* what I was told). Sounds like you had the right idea!
Where did you learn that? I knwo when I went to cuba that they had a very strange way of riding and didn't believe me that I ride and actively compete lol lol because they ride so strangely. The only style of riding in NA that I can think of from the top of my head that would tell you to stand is hunter. But even then that'* more of a 2-point and only used for jumping and canter.
While we're on the subjects of horses...mr. Dream Weaver won his first ribbon last weekend!! We won it in Senior English Pleasure, and Sandy and I are currently in first place for points in Senior English Command class :o lol so how many of you know what i am talking about here?

I just figured out that I had a western style saddle when I went horseback riding. That might explain a lot.

I have been riding regularly (all kinds- western, english, stadium jumping, eventing, dressage, trail) since I was 4 years old and I can tell you with utmost certainty that there is NO quicker way to get thighs of steel.

Horses rule. My other vehicle is a horse and she has more hosspower than a Civie...

My wife and I went on vacation in Arizona this past spring. We went riding through the mountains in Sedona, AZ and that'* how they told us to ride. It was SOOO uncomfortable, so I just gave in and sat on the saddle and didn't do the "standing" that they wanted us to do. They kept telling me to not sit on the saddle, but to stand in the stir ups. It was just raising hell with my knees to stand!!

BTW, congrats on the win!!
