damn you guys flew through this thread while i was typing...heh, you can probably disregard my post above as long as the desktop is getting out to the internet, but i strongly recommend settting up wep on the wireless piece.

did you get a 192 addy on the laptop yet? It looks like you have connection to the wap. Do an ipconfig on the laptop again.

I access the internet VIA dialup, don't have cable or DSL.. the router I got says 'cable/dsl wireless router' on the box, bro told me to pick that up for the wireless network.. He said it should still work because it'* also a 4-way switch, but I didn't think it would because it says it'* for cable/dsl wireless routing, maybe that'* just me, but I thought I got the wrong thing..

Do you want to just conenct the two devices or do you want to have them both access the internet as well? If you want the latter you must have a router that is capable of dial-up routing as well which i dont think you do. what is the model of the netgear?

agreed. You should be able to connect the two machines together. We need to get the laptop a 192 addy and then you will be able to transfer files between the two.

Oh, one thing...make sure the XP firewall is disabled in the network settings...
