It looks like that for the Network bridge but not the WIreless Network Connection
I'm gonna say disable that bridge, shouldn't be needed with a router. Just right-click, select disable (you can always Enable later) and see if you can then configure your card...

tried to disable the bridge on the laptop and still can't change settings on the wireless network connection. Think it'd be easiest to just start from scratch and remove the entire network ont he laptop and leave the desktop alone? This time I'd only use the software provided by netgear to setup the laptop?

Your connected to window should also give a MAC address which looks something like this:
00-09-5B-2F-BE-F6

Make sure that number coincides with the MAC address on the case of your router<--this is just a double-check....

Good call. Why would you create two OS'* that don't work together?!?

But to be sure that this is that case, we need to change that IP address on the card so that you can at least "see" the other computer...

Ok i see a few things wrong here. First like TWM says we need to fix your laptop ip. however what i also notice is that both machines are on a class b network instead of a class c (the 255.255.0.0 instead of 255.255.255.0). Check these things first:

1) turn off the cable modem or dsl modem
2) turn off the router
2) connect the cable modem or dsl modem to the WAN port on the router
3) turn on the cable or dsl modem (wait for all diags to complete usually 30 seconds0
4) turn on the router look for a wan link light make sure you are using a crossover cable between the cable/dsl modem and the wan port of the router
5) plug in your desktop to the switch on the router
6) reboot the desktop
7) do an ipconfig from a command prompt and post it here.
