New owner today.........
Hi, just bought a 95 Bonneville SE (I think) as a runaround with 139k miles....... I have a few questions? The car runs great and everything works (or appears to) but I always do a quick maint "overhaul" on all my new purchases just so I know whats been done and when.
First question is.....how long do the trannies usually last before a swap/rebuild and how much am I looking at? If I change the fluid and filter obviously it "should" last longer if its operating fine prior?
I heard that the 3.8 V6 goes for high mileages, if well maintained can they go at least 200k? Lastly, I read a little about the Series II motor and some model designations like L36 etc...........how can I find out what series/designation/trim level my car has? Perhaps a vin decoder?
P.*.
Is there any way I can retrieve the fault codes from the computer or do I need a scanner/decoder? How would I do this? Thanks guys.

I would suggest changing the trans fluid and filter. Inspect the fluid and magnet, this will tell you how your trans is doing.
Change the oil and filter, again inspect. Check other fluid levels, power steering, and brakes. Clean battery connections, brake pads, etc.
You have a series 1. Not sure about pulling codes, I think 95 was the oddball year with obd 1.5
