Former owner of a Bonneville since today :(
My family has been owning this 92 Bonnie since november of that year. Yesterday, i brought to my local garage for a steering problem (hard to turn right). This afternoon, big big big (i really mean big) surprise... The engine mounts are rusted through and a single bolt is holding the engine (3.8 v6...) out of the usual 6...
Don't get all mad about this, this car was actually expected to die within the next year. Even the set of summer tires was worn out and we wouldn't get a new set for it...
I'll go take pictures of it tomorrow morning. Spent too many good times in that car...

Very sorry to hear about the cancer death of your Bonne, but glad you showed up here. Welcome!
You know, a good used Bonneville can be had for a very reasonable price...
Find a good clean one and we'll be happy to help you fall back into love (with your car, that is).

Sounds like there are many other issues. However if you were looking to keep it running for a while longer, a subframe shouldn't be too expensive at a junkyard and not too bad to put in.

The subframe seems to be the only big issue I had.
Was it something to be expected from a '92 SE ? My mechanic told me as i went back there to take a few pics of my beloved that Grand Ams and Bonnevilles had this problem and that another one of his customers (the white bonneville in town, i had the grey one) l itterally lost her engine on the road. When an engine falls, you loose steering and braking... she must've been scared.
Right now i do not have the budget to get a Bonnie on my own. Although i see a few models within my price range when i finally get a job. Most of these are in the Montreal area (400 km from here)
Wish me luck! These cars are jewels and websites like these a treasure trove to understand and prevent problems before they happen.

186000km (110000 miles ?)
the crash dates back from 1998, On the outside it is nearly rust-free, we can see a few spots near the right headlight. Others spots are mostly near the gas tank cap. The undercarriage was in bad shape, some holes beneath the pedals were patched in '03 but a lot more work would've been needed.
The car never had anti-corrosion treatments and since most of the lower body panels are plastic, it never occurred to my mom (previous owner since bought from a rental company in 92) that the car would actually rust until it was pretty much too late. She got her lesson: all newer cars in her household are now protected even before coming out of the dealer.
Canadian winters with road salt and calcium are a killing to many cars. I'm just happy the engine didn't fall off lol.

i must say i"m not overly surprised just because my brother'* 92 SE also had a similar problem and it was sold for it. The underbody was rusting SO bad that the car was falling apart. Hopefully the newer cars don't have that issue.
