New to this forum - looking to learn!
Ok - I'm a noob to this forum, just found it yesterday... but not a noob to this car.
Brief history:
My first car was a '79 Bonneville sedan. (301 V Hand me down from the parents. My mom replaced that car with a new '92 SSEi when she gave me the old Bonneville.
My mom has finally (!) replaced the '92 SSEi with an SUV. Now - she'* planning on keeping the Bonneville around for a while as a 3rd car, but she'* told me it has been giving some problems lately, and isn't as reliable. Garage kept all it'* life, and maintained whenever they heard a strange sound, or was scheduled for maintenance. I've had my eye on this car for quite some time (uh, 14 years?), so I might see if they would sell it to me when they don't need the 3rd car around.
So I'm scouting out the potential for this ride. It'* a nice car, fully loaded (heads up display, etc) and still performs well for it'* age. Has about 100k miles on it - maybe more. 120k tops.
First questions - why did this engine only get 205hp? Any "easy" mods to get it up to 250hp like the Series 2? Any chips available?
Second questions - what should I/they look out for as needing replacement in the coming year? Supercharger? Can it be upgraded instead of an exact replacement?
Third questions - what is the typical 0-60 and 1/4 time (and trap speed) for this year SSEi?
As for some background on me, my current cars include a 2003 Subaru WRX w/ Cobb Stage 1 (260hp), and a '68 Firebird (350).

Posts like a Ricer Type-R
It was rated at 205 (vs. 240 for the S2) due to a smaller supercharger, non-roller valvetrain components, etc. However, it'* VERY torquey, and delivers it'* peak hp and torque at a much lower RPM than the Series 2. There are lots of differences, and some advantages and disadvantages when compared.
Pontiacs rating didn't change in 1993, despite several improvements. Most notably in the trans and valvetrain.
1994/95 got a more efficient supercharger (Still an M62 though). And a larger throttle body. That bumped it up a little:
92/93 are 205hp 260tq
94/95 are 225hp 275tq
96 + are 240hp 280 tq
All three are widely thought to be grossly underrated by GM so nobody would question them on their choices of transmissions.
Your SC can be rebuilt if it needs it. Pop a smaller pulley and an intake and exhaust on the car to wake it up a bit. You'll feel quite the kick in the pants.
