I bought a Pico and going to see if the cam and crank really are out of phase.

Pico is a good scope.Depending on what model you may want to get good leads for it.

I just bought the basic 2 channel one for now. I bought some piercing leads for it and a back probe kit too.

Hopefully they give you good traces without much distortion. For what you want to do it should be fine.
