Default Mirror w/compass Service port?

I intend to tap into the mirror for the 12VDC to power my dashcam.

The last owner (or GM) installed the windshield mount partly on the dotted sunscreen and the mirror fell off. No problem with that... easy fix.

I was originally going to use pin probes to get power from the connector....BUT.....While I was examining the mirror assembly I noticed a cable that runs from the mirror housing to the mount that attaches to the metal tab on the windshield. There appears to be a connector on the mount similar to a USB. I'm guessing it'* a service port and wondered if I could find a suitable connector and grab the 12VDC. Makeup one with the GM connector to the USB that powers the dashcam. If I had the wiring diagram it would be great but I bought a series of PDF files but I'm unable to find what I need.

Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks!

Well I opened the attachment housing and those are not connectors. There is a small 1" circuit board inside it, maybe for indoor temps????

Or compass.
Does this mirror have built in lights, compass or temp?

It has a compass but I believe the compass module is in the headliner assembly

Hmmm, not sure then, I think my 2000 Blazer had the same style mirror and I might recognize the port if I seen it, but still, without schematics we'd be guessing all day.

On another note.I think your dash cam wants to see temporary power instead of power on all the time.

I'm getting closer, (I think) after some Internet scouring; the 16 pin connector from inside the headliner to the mirror appears to use pin 13 for switched 12v + and pin 8 for ground. I will verify with my VOM. I "might" dig into the inside of the mirror mount and see what'* available as far as switched 12+. There is room to mount a coaxial jack in there and a shortened plug from the dashcam would be a deluxe appearance.

I'd bet it isn't rated to carry power for more than it already has assigned to it. If it were me, I'd run a wite up there from an adequate 12V source and call it good.

I agree, run it to good switched source and call it a day.
