Default inside mirror removal

So, I need to replace my inside auto dim/compass mirror. RPO DD7 if it matters. The service manual says the following:

"Twist the mirror to one side and use one hand in order to support the edge of the mirror against the windshield. Using the other hand, pull the mirror away from the windshield with a quick jerk."

I am just not quite getting how it wants me to do this. Obviously not wanting to damage the windshield or mirror. Just don;t want to screw it up. Thanks.

Pat

I think I understand what they want you to do, but I'd be concerned about what it describes too. I've never done this before myself, and I couldn't find it around on the internet. Maybe someone else will come along that has experience with this. If not, you might want to talk to a windshield guy or a dealership.

Next time I'm at a junkyard I'll try it too.

I will try to have a closer look at mine tomorrow to see if there may be a hex set screw to the bracket as well.
My FSM describes it as bracket that is bonded to the glass.
I do not think I would want to force anything. The glass shops will have a better idea what is involved.

No set screw that I can find. Here is a closeup of the replacement mirror with the metal tab still attached. You can see two little tabs sticking up.

Ah, that makes more sense. I'd try putting a screwdriver here and twisting so as to pry this tab down:

Turns out it was very easy. Got a small flat head in there & twisted & the mirror lifted off. Thanks.

I twisted the screw driver enough to compress the clip & release the button. The mirror slid right up & off. Your diagram was right on.

Cool!

Thanks, now we all know for future generations.

Also, thanks for letting us know what worked. Many forget to come back and tell us.
