If you were to syphon a quart of gas out of your tank and take it to any bulk fuel plant, they could test it and tell you for sure what the octane rating is. The best place would be the source where your gas station purchases it'* gas from. If it'* a major comany (exxon, shell, chevron, etc) they would be very concerned.
I work in the fuel industry and believe me, the suppliers do take complaints like this seriously. At the very least, the owner of the station would recieve a warning to train his attendants better.
My 2 (cdn) cents worth.
*edot* Just a thought here, since mistakes do happen.......... someone could have filled the premium tank with regular and your complaint may just save someone else from the same problems.

But you make a good point.
It'* actually a screen IIRC. And yes, it defeated me last year at the dragstrip.
It matters not. This is a low-profit budget station, and there'* really nothing I can do. I appreciate the ideas, but I'd rather focus on the path forward with the engine at this point.
For the last two years, my goal was to push this engine to the breaking point. The good news is that I couldn't. It took someone else'* mistake and my oversight to make it happen.

I may be commenting pretty late into this, but I have got to have clarified the KR issue. Is it that you had a knock that busted a piston head? I read through the entire thread, but I'm not entirely sure yet.
