I love the relability of the 3.8s -- if only the transmissions had the same durability. Heck, the only thing I did to the motor from the time I bought it two years ago until now has been routine maintenance, and LIM gaskets. I could have left the LIM gaskets alone and things would have been fine; they were in good shape at 255K.

don't feel bad, that is a ton of mileage. my '98 SSE threw a rod bearing and cracked the block at 82,000 mi!!!!!!! :( put in a new motor and drove her until I came across the goat

I know that it doesn't feel good right now, but that car has given you a lot! Mine currently has 165K miles on it and I'm targeting 200K at this time. If I make it, then I'll go for 225K etc., lol.

It was interesting to hear that the LIM gasket wasn't really bad after 255K miles.

I was just really hoping to get 300K out of the original motor, just as a personal goal if anything. I'm not complaing at all, 261K out of it, with as strong as it was running, still makes me proud.
