The easiest and most basic way of doing it is to just disconnect the battery for around 5 minutes or so.

Disconnec the negative terminal of the battery and then hit the brake pedal until the 3rd brake light stops lighting up. That gets rid of the extra electrons floating in the system and then you can reconnect your battery and you know for sure its reset.

Best way is to get all codes physically erased, as some stored codes may not be erased by simply disconnecting the battery!
