removing factory PCM and installing intense PCM question
I have searched for this answer and cant find it.I am installing an intense PCM that i bought used from an individual.What i need to know is do i have to disconnect the battery before i take out and reinstall PCMs?I have the instructions for the security relearn and i am not worried about the case learn.Thanks

For safety'* sake, it would be a good idea to disconnect that battery before removing or installing the PCM. You may run into problems with it, however as I believe your specific VIN has to be loaded into it for many things to work properly.

Well,i chose not to disconnect the battery.The car wont even try to turn over though everything comes on fine.I am about to reinstall the factory PCM and kiss what i spent good bye.This is what i get for not researching this enough.Also,the PCM is for an 02 SSEi and mines an 03.

Was that after trying the security relearn, too? I'm not sure on how many things are affected by the wrong VIN (the radio is one thing that likely won't work) but not 100% certain on the pass-key system.

No,i never tried the security relearn.I thought it would still crank after i installed the new PCM.Do you have to do the security relearn before it will start?I found very little info on doing this.

you should probably contact the guy who you bought it from and ask him if he still has the instructions. I think the relearn takes about 20 mins. Something about turning the key to one of the positions and letting it relearn itself.

Yes, the security relearn must be done first, or it will not crank. You may hear just sort of a strange pop from the speakers, but that would be about it. As you have the relearn instructions, give those a try and see if that works.

Well,i just got through taking it for a little drive.It feels like it has better off idle response.I also noticed that the shifts are pretty firm.Is it supposed to be this firm?Otherwise not a single other problem.
