lol, I never miss Powerblock, good shows...

Guys, I'm all for the pro-Bonneville banter, but it sounds like we're having a hard time admitting that this new Eclipse is pretty hot stuff. The N/A technology they're using is quite superior to a pushrod L36 in horsepower and torque output, and it would probably be more than a match for an SSEi. The sad fact of the matter is that our GM 3800s aren't kings of the road anymore; in fact, they're becoming more and more outmoded every day. True, you can get a used SSEi and put a little money into it to get more bang-for-your-buck than a brand new Eclipse, but stock for stock they've got us whipped.

Let'* not blow too much smoke, eh?

i agree but its not a pushrod either.......there is alot newer technology going into engines......the 3800 made the 10 best list......beat that

I never argued that the powerplant wasn't putting out some good numbers with some amazing technology. Simply that the Eclipse is somewhat heavy at around 3600 lbs for a car that is supposed to be a sports car...even the G6 GTP is lighter with similar power numbers.

MIVEC is a very impressive setup, although has some limitations as were discussed earlier in this thread, namely the midrange-power cam lobe being detrimental to fuel economy.

I have to say this, though. In reality, if the L36 designers threw efficiency to the wind, they could have easily matched the hp/tq output of that mitsu engine with the same gas mileage.

I'm not one-sided, as I'm about the only one here that likes Fords (which uses Mitsubishi engines )

Since when does Ford use Mitsu engines? (sorry if I sound incredulous, just never heard of this.)
