Is the 3800 in the 87-91'* considered a series l? I was just wondering because i found intense racing and other realted sites devoted to the series ll and a couple for the series one but most of the series one cars on the sites are 92 and later and i wanted to upgrade a couple things like intake and rockers and maybe a cam and headers.

as far as i know, the 87-91'* arent the series one and i believe they are just called the 3800. since the motors are different from 87-91 and 92+, i dont think that any series one mods will work. there doesnt seem to be very much after for our engines :? or maybe im just not looking very hard

87-91 is not a series 1...series 1 is 92-94 NA motors and 92-95 SC motors.

The 87-91, known as the LN3 motor code as mentioned doesn't have a series designation. IIRC the Series 1 wasn't designated that until the S2 came out.

87-88 is the VIN 3 or the LG3
there was a crossover year in 1988
88-91 is the VIN C or the LN3

Take a look at a 91 Park Ave Ultra engine cover. Looks just like the rest of the SI covers, but says Series I if I remember.

Buick had the Series 1 a year before any other GM brand. Buick designed our motors.

the LG3 is a 3.8 and the LN3 is a 3800.

The LN3 has alot of similarities to the L27 (Series I) so I like to think of it as the Pre-Series one.

Also. Pat, you said 87-88 on the LG3, do you know of any LG3s in an '88? If so there must be VERY few. Like VERY early model year.
