Yup, you will have to go through him on what he wants to do with the old motor. I can't see him transporting it back to Ver-gin-eye-a, but that doesn't mean he won't scuttle a few parts for other members and I do the, er, dirty work
But if it is a cam you are looking for, I still have one sitting at Dons house that'* from Jinxs original rattleblock. Perhaps he could be persuaded to extract it from the block.
Getting back to topic, I painted some of the bracketry last night that was left over from my own swap, and painted the timing cover, all in either the lowgloss black or silver texture. Also got around to de-valving one of the heads and started to clean up the exhaust ports a bit.
I have my son here for the holidays, so working on this won't be as fast as before, but work will still progress. From the way my schedule and Dons schedule looks, it will be middle to late January before Gwen will be operational. And that is not including any shakedown runs (no track runs, just making sure all will be well in the longterm. I refuse to release this car back to him unless it is running and running well). And much of that time won't be spent in the rebuilding, or the swapping. It'* in detailing the crap out of it.

With this threat of detailing, you have just once again proven the BC'* amazing kindness and family-like ties. I'm really glad this fix is going so well. If my car ever breaks down, I hope I'm in Florida because then I'll know I'm in good hands.

I'm not sure what I wana do with the 'ol L27, but it will likley not return to Va. with me. I might take a part or two from it. It will probably be left with Brad, to junk it, part it or save it however he wants.
Sounds like its coming along great. Don't worry about it over the holiday man, enjoy your time off, however much you have.
My friends are missing Gwen as well, the Jeep just doesn't give a 'hug' like the AL7s will

Gaskets came in today. Everyone I need
Timing cover got its new seals, and new water pump is installed. TAM bracket painted and installed, as is the harmonic balancer. In other words, the short block is complete!!
It really isn't about cleaning it up. It'* about doing it right. It only makes sense that if you put fresh gaskets on and in an engine, it needs to be clean so that if any leaks occur, you can see them and nip them in butt. Plus, if the parts are apart, it only takes an extra few minutes to clean and paint

Got one head done (rear bank). It'* bolted up to the block now, painted, and valve cover put on with new gasket & grommets. Got the rear accessory bracket painted and bolted on too. That was done yesterday.
Today I worked on the engine bay, prepping the engine to come out. Radiator and fans are out, AC lines disconnected (Yes, I could have left the AC alone. I chose not to, for I have learned a valuable lesson in this. I'll swap the whole assembly over outside the vehicle).
I'll get pics of it tomorrow.
