Angry Getting burned ordering used parts.

Just wondering what any of you guys, or gals, thoughts are on ordering used parts from places like Amazon?

I have a recent story to share, I am not sure just how it will end as I am waiting to hear back from the guy, but I recently bought a used headlamp assembly from a guy on Amazon for 27.00, he listed the part as Used-Good Condition, when I get the part I see all brackets and screws are totally rusted up, and one of the plastic clips that goes on one of the adjusters is missing, now I could have bought a totally brand new TYCO HL Assembly for 10.00 more dollars, but money is tight so I thought I'd take a chance, and I totally regret it.
The guy sent me a label to print from Amazon to send it back, but expects me to pay the shipping, this is where I have a problem as I feel I should not have to pay close to 10.00 to send him back a part that he should have never sold, as you cannot adjust the screws to aim the headlights, and one of the parts that hold the headlight bulb in was bent, well half of the tangs or whatever you call them were bent or, or broken.
Also the plastic part missing on it is what is missing from my current passenger side headlamp assembly, so it will not pass inspection with the broken one he sent me.
I don't have a printer anymore, so I have to get a friend to print the label, then send it to me, then go to a UPS store and pay them to ship it back to him, just so he can throw it away.
This grinds my gears because I just cannot understand why he expects me to pay to ship back what he should have never shipped me since he lied about its condition, only so he can throw it away.
If I have to take a loss I'd rather him just refund me 17.00 of the 27.00 back, and except the negative feedback I will be forced to leave him.

Just curios as to what any of your thoughts on this are?

Also if you have any similar stories about being burned ordering used parts, feel free to share them.

Were there pictures of it?

I hate to say it, but $10 more for brand new would be the route I would have gone with myself. I am also leery of used. I assume the worst until proven otherwise.

something like that you are better off just going to the yard and get one you can see before you pay.

Here are images of the part, the first pic shows the rusted broken plastic piece, granted I should be able to easily replace it with the one from my old assembly that is not broken, as it was actually the round one on my old assembly that broke, and not the square one.
I tried to remove the plastic piece for an hour and gave up after figuring out it refused to come off.
The second pic shows what the square plastic piece looks like that should have been on the headlight assembly.
I would have gladly paid 10.00 more for the new one, but I was really tight on money, I needed groceries and was down to my last dollar, so I had no choice at the time.

I agree, I did check with most junkyards around my area, but they all wanted 50.00 - 55.00 for a used headlight assembly, when a decent TYCO new one is only 35.00, since I only had 29.00 left I went with the used one from this guy on Amazon from JRB Automotive JRB Automotive Store Front

I e-mailed the guy and nicely explained that the part could not be used, and was rusted and broken, he said he would refund my money, but I have to pay to ship him back the headlight assembly when he is just going to throw it away, so I assume.
He responds with the following.

"Right next to my item was a picture of the product. The listing can be altered manually by any seller at any time. I had a picture of my item up there of what i was selling. I see that the listing has been altered but the picture what representative of what we were selling."

So he says I should have seen the parts condition in the pic of the product that was not an actual pic of his product, he listed it as in used/good condition, that is really dishonest.
If I have to I'll ship it back to him, and lose close to 10.00 by shipping it to him, but like I told him, I will be sure to leave proper feedback in regards to the transaction, as others need to know how shady the guy is.
A good business man IMO would have apologized for the mistake, told me to throw the broken POS away, and refunded me my money, instead of making me lose more money just so he can throw the part away himself, or resell it to somebody else gullible enough to buy it from him.

In my disgruntled opinion. I'd ship it back to him in a thousand pieces, sprayed with skunk pee. Then accept the loss with gratification knowing you screwed his pooch.

LOL Mike, awesome idea!

I am a fair guy always, with anybody, but this guy is really pissing me off, I went as far as to put PB Blaster on the rusted screws so I could try to swap parts from my current passenger side headlight assembly, just to save him from having to refund me any money.
I just do not understand why he needs me to go through the hassle of getting somebody to print me the return label, and mail it to me, which I know is my problem that I don't have a printer working at the moment, nor a friend nearby to print it for me, but in reality I shouldn't have to return something that was listed in good condition.
He blames me for not knowing what I ordered, that is one dishonest businessman, he says he had a pic up "representing the product being sold" how the hell am I supposed to look at the pic of the new TYCO headlight assemblies, and know that his product is rusted and broken by doing so?
He says "I see that the listing has been altered but the picture what representative of what we were selling."
How is it my fault somebody on his end altered the pic he says he had up of his product, and replaced it with a new pic representing what he was selling?
In the listing he clearly states the product is Used-Good condition, when that is nothing but a lie.
And meow he refuses to give me my money back unless I spend time and money shipping it back to him so he can throw it away, or sell it to some other sucker, what a jerk!
I'll have to wait for my friend to mail me the printed label from Tennessee, then drive my car with a rejection sticker on it to the post office, waste my time and gas, just to pay to ship it back to him, which I'll be waiting for him to get it back, then refund my money to paypal, which I then have to wait for it to transfer from Paypal back to my bank account.
Like I told him if I am forced to go this route I will, but there will be honest negative feedback, and sad this is it will be the first negative feedback I have ever left anybody on Amazon.

Well, time to order a new TYCO headlight assembly, and wait like 2 weeks to get my money back, as I doubt he will agree to refund my money unless I pay to ship it back to him.
At this point I'd accept 17.00 back if I did not have to send it back to him, but he seems like such a jerk that I doubt he'd even go for that, as he seems to want to sell it to some other unsuspecting fool.

Do you have any other recourse? Like paypal? Your bank? Etc?

That is pretty lame.

Good idea Randall, I'll see what I can do to dispute the charges via Amazons A-to-z Guarantee, I forgot that I normally pay for things on Amazon with my debit card, was so upset about getting burned I did not think about that.
So I'll see if I can file a claim, but I am not sure if they will accept it though, as the seller did say they'd give my money back, but I have to pay to have it shipped back to him, which I am pretty sure will cost close to 10.00, which is BS because I do not see why I should be responsible for shipping charges on a defective/broken item that he incorrectly listed as in Good condition.

I have filed a claim, hopefully Amazon makes him refund my money without me having to send the broken part back to him, that or he is going to have to send me a prepaid shipping label, I am not paying to send him back something that he lied about the condition of, that is just bad business.
Hopefully he will step up and be the better man, if not I will definitely leave proper feedback.

He will just close up shop, and start another one under a new name with no feedback.

This is one of many reasons I don't buy used things on the internet.

Most likely, I have leaned my lesson for sure, never again!
