Impala is an awesome car and a Bonneville can reach the 300hp mark with ease.
So our Bonneville’* with an owner willing to drop the coin can reach 300hp with EASE. Yes even a series 1 with or without magic. So as cool as the caprice or impala look the Bonneville can compete and play in and past the same field.

I agree a bonneville at 300hp+ is not all that terribly difficult, but I would have to disagree that it can play 'past' the same field. My 96 is a monster, espically in the torque field. The only thing i've done are heads, cam, springs, and rockers (plus the usual like exhaust and CAI) and the car will accelerate like a madman if asked to. The LT1 is an amazing platform to start with, and given the opportunity can stomp most other metal on the road. Some of the other impala owners I chat with are running mid 11 quarter miles, and considering the car was 10K cheaper than the bonneville new, there is pleanty of room to mod.

Bonneville is a great car, but without a LOT of money, it isn't going to keep up with a moderatley modded LT1 Anything.

Funny. I have a brother-in-law named Ben. He has a 96 Impala. Lives in CA, though.

My cousin has a 96' and it'* not that bad , but when you compare the power to hunger ratio !
205 hp out of a 3.8 and 260 hp out of a 5.7 ! Those cars are to heavy anyway ! But they are nice ! My cousins needs alot of work but hopefully he'll get there! He just got bonnie seats! It'* a police package !

No... Parked as in Parked. Its parked for the winter inside the back of my office building. I'll probably never sell the impala.

If I had some disposable cash....I'd pick me up an Impala SS. I always loved those big beasts when they brought them back out in the mid 90'*....but I needed something better on gas but still with some sack - that'* why I picked my Bonnie.
