2003 Maxima vs 2003 GTP
I remember reading something on ClubGP. They had a link to a story in Car And Driver or some publication like that and apparently the 04 Max destroyed the 04 GP. So some big shot at GM (Bob something...I don't recall his name) invited AJAC (Automobile Journalist Association of Canada) out to a Test Run day of the GP and Max, apparently the tests and times were much closer.
Anyone recall that story??

Bob Lutz - Vice President of GM
Jim Kenzie was unimpressed by the brake fade during a panic stop the first time he and a colleague drove the 2004 GTP. However, GM could not recreate the problem that Kenzie had complainted about and were perplexed.
Bob Lutz invited Kenzie to GM'* Proving grounds and told him he could bring any car he wanted (within a reasonable price range) to go head to head with the 2004 GTP. Kenzie chose the 2004 Maxima and the GTP spanked the Maxima in every performance category (acceleration, skidpad, braking, etc.) except for interior build quality.
Good memory 89, I just thought I would give everyone a summary of the story.

im wit ya on that 1
The Altima with the same 3.5 L engine will post a 0-60 in 5.9 sec and the 1/4 in 14.6 sec.
It'* all related to simple physics. Hp to weight ratio, torque and rear ratio'*.
Hmmm. Funny though. Both the Nissan and the GTP weight about the same, the GTP has more hp but the acceleration numbers are quoted to be higher for the Nissan.

Actually, the GTP is the underdog when it comes to horsepower. For both the 2003 and 2004 model years, a Maxima has more horsepower than a GTP. The GTP has more torque than the Maxima does. Perhaps you are thinking of torque?
FYI, I will repost the chart I posted before. Here it is:
2003 GTP = 240 hp & 280 lb-ft. of tq.
2004 GTP = 260 hp & 280 lb-ft. of tq.
2003 Maxima = 255 hp& 246 lb-ft. of tq.
2004 Maxima = 265 hp & 255 lb-ft. of tq.
