On one of the 2 sunny days, I had to get a new Battery. The side poles had burnt thru.
(acid/ corrosion again!!! ) and trying to remove the Pos. caused the battery'* side connecto,r to come off with the bolt.
Acid then dripped out of the side connection. I had just cleaned these not 2 weeks ago!
I'm beginning to NOT like these .....
*$#$@^ side mounts!!.!Anyhew... I got a new Optima battery, from Pep Boys.Although the specs
call for a 720 cca I got the (800 cca, 980 ca) $119.00. It sometimes gets cold around here! It should last me a while...
Want to do the big 3, at a later date.
While I was at it, I got new cable connectors, and cut off the corroded ones. I then cut back the insulation on all, approx 1.5 inches, in prep for the new connectors, and to see if acid damage went that far. I flared out the strands, and neutralized any acid, that may have worked its way up the cables,( None was visible, but the reaction, 1/8 to 1/4 inch of the very ends, indicated otherwise) with saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate, (baking soda) untill the fizzing and green color [ copper sulphate] stopped,
replacing the solution often, as it got green.
Rinsed ,with fresh water, and air dried overnight. Clamped the cables, to the connector, taped it well, to isolate from everything and hooked up the battery.
Car started instantly, after sitting for three days straight in the pouring rain.
Not that I thought, it might not.....
Continuing saga................
Trouble shot the ailing horn.... and concluded :
there'* power to the relay, Relay has good continuity thru the coil
continuity to the steering column wiring,
Removed airbag .....again, tested the horn ground.
the ground is good
Removed the horns, cleaned the mounting surfaces, tested with ohmmeter.
The only thing this left was the horn button.
This..... grounds the coil, energizing the relay, and completes the power to horn circuit.
I'm putting in remote mounted button for the horn, and calling it a day!
Can't do as much as when I was young.......and......what was I saying?
Just gotta figure how / where, to get thru the firewall....... will probably drill a hole
close to the area of the O2 sensor, near the blower motor, as I have mounted a tiny microswitch horn button on the T-shifter. Wiring goes thru the shifter boot, and is nearly invisible. I have dumdum, with which to seal hole in firewall.

I'll save that for future reference.
I didn't wait.... The hole is already drilled ... have already got a new grommet in.
It was just a light tap with the centerpunch, and drill thru.
Took all of 1 minute, ten seconds
..... And the horn relay is right above this area.
I'm running the wiring under the rug atop the hump......
and straight thru is, the shortest route.
