Default Headlight Switch Keeps Burning Out

Just what the subject says, my dash cluster lights keep going out because my headlight switch keeps burning out. I've gone through 2 switches in the past 3 months. Sometimes instead of the switch a fuse will blow, I've replaced the same fuse 3 times (I can't remember the fuse location off the top of my head sorry).

Usually the fuse will blow if I turn my headlights on by pulling the switch rather than letting them come on by themselves. But like I said, my car just fried it'* 2nd switch in 3 months. so changing the fuse isn't going to fix it this time.

are there any grounds that I should check? any input would help, thanks

Do what I did and take apart the switch if you can. Sounds like there may be a short somewhere, but I wouldnt know where to check for them on a 99

Also, since it has to do with the headlights, check all of the headlight wiring harnesses and make sure none of them are pinched or bare and shorting out against the car.

Lastly check the headlight sockets to see if there are any burnt parts where it can be shorting out.

Let us know what you find.

Double check the ground busses on both driver and passenger sides next to door at the floorboard.

OK, first off, sorry to dig up an old thread, but I'm still having the same problems. I just finally had some time to deal with this minor yet oh so annoying issue that I should take care of if I'm going to get rid of this car.

Here'* what I've done so far, checked all headlight sockets and harnesses as suggested. Everything looked fine.

Checked ground busses along floor, extremely clean, no sign of corrosion. Just for the hell of it I hit them with a little dielectric grease.

Now before I go putting in another headlight switch that will likely burn out in a couple months what else should I check?

I am having the same problems as outlined in this thread (minus the antenna problem)-

Could they be related?
