Sorry for the typo Bill but even spellcheck wouldn't have caught that one. I want to say thank you to all the member that have tried to help me with my 92 Bonneville.

Your help has done the trick. I got the MAS sensor today and installed it. For once an easy removal, only three screw in the open and a pull out plug. My luck one of the screws was frozen and I half stripped the screw getting it out. But i got a fix for that situation now, my little Dremel. I used a cutting wheel and cut a clean slot in the screw and the new sensor went in perfectly and easily. I looked at the old sensor, its a Wheatstone bridge type of detector. Very ingenious engineers at GM to use such a simple device to give very valuable information about how much air the car is intaking,

The error code G-D 34 has gone away and the car is running well. I will fix the alternator later but I suspect that the back bearing is starting to go because when I had it apart there was a very little play in the bearing. Is this normal for this type of bearing? I am under the impression that all bearing should revolve around tight with no side to side play.

Can this bearing be lubricated or must it be replaced or does this indicate that the alternator will be going soon too? With these high output alternator a lot of heat is produced that cooks diodes and makes bearings run dry. On this car I have replaced the altenator twice. The first time because the diodes got fried and the other time because the rear bearing started to fall apart. If you recommend lubing it, I will ASAP dissassemble the alternator and follow your instructuion on how to lub the bearing. At one time I believe there used to be lub nipples on generator and some early alternators, but the auto manufactures have done away with those things. I think lubrication is cheap, parts are expensive, car computer parts and sensor are super expensive but good advice is worth its weight in gold.

Thanks again everybody and Bill you desire to Boast a little too. Without this forum I 'd have to take the car to the shop and pay an enormous bill for something that is easy to fix.
