Default Tail light clearcoat?

Has a clear choice for clearcoating tail lights been established here? I think i searched correctly a while ago, but not much was provided on clearcoating plastic. I tried simply spraying the tail light with some plastic shiner, but it when used according to the instructions started eating into the plastic. I'm ok now, though. I tried also some clear acrylic, and that left white stains. In fact, it was because of the clear acrylic and the "shine" that I had to sand a lot and do another coat of tint. The lights are fine, but not shiny. When I throw on some mineral spirits with a sponge, they look awesome. How can I get that greatness to be permanent/almost permanent?

Are you asking about clearing over the taillights WITHOUT tinting them first? If so, I would think most clears would be fine. Like Duplicolor'* clearcoat. I would just grab the clear that you would use over regular base coat color.

I'm asking about clearcoating the tail lights after they've already been tinted with VHT Night Shades. Is it the same thing? If you have tinted tail lights, get them wet, and let me know how to get that look, please. Is it possible?

I had tinted tails on the 94 and they were quite shiny. It'* definitely possible. I didn't tint them myself though since I ended up buying some already tinted. So as far as what clear works best over the VHT I can't tell you. Though if your tint is done well and it'* allowed to dry for a long time, I would think the Duplicolor clear (acrylic lacquer) would work just fine. IDK for sure though as I haven't done it...

The problem is that if I mess them up, I can't go a coat darker. I may have to pick up some clear plastic elsewhere and see how it works there. What is most similar to our tail lights?
