i have a 1968 chevy van, cannot get the wipers to work, new motor new switch, totally confused

Do you have power at the connector? Do you have a dvom?
I remember some of these old systems had ground issues at the motor. Run a wire from the battery negative to the motor case and see if they work.

have power to yellow wire on wiper motor. motor will run if I manually ground light blue or black wire, but will not run through switch

That shouldn't be hard to back probe. Do you have a wiring diagram?

does the base of the switch supply ground for all 3 wires, colors are light blue, dark blue, and black
