not super sure what a tickle wire is but the starter wont start regardless

We need to start at the beginning. Is the ignition switch powered? NO. Need to check the fusible links and any high amp protection devises and see what you blew.

It seems that the ignition switch is working to some extent, the headlights and radio power on

Headlights are not dependent on ignition. Radio, ahhh

Test light between the positive solenoid wire and the negative battery post. Turn the key to start. Does it light up?
