even a vehicle unequipped with onstar still needs it. from a mobile technician i know he said that it will communicate with the security system on the radio system. check it out look at back of package and make sure compliant with your vehicle.. and if it doesnt work... you can return anything to walmart ha

you dont need that. the majority of it is the chimes. all you need is the rap power like i posted, everything else works with the old style connector adapter

Hmm, that is odd, the switched power is supposed to come from one of the pins of the 10 pin, I am not sure how the factory unit turns on without that 10 pin being connected.

Does the stock unit actually work without the 10 pin, or does it just illuminate the display?

I am looking over the info from that PDF I linked you to, and I see there is one wire of the 24 pin connector mentioned that is not used for the aftermarket radio, the Orange wire, I wonder if that provides turn on power for the stock unit, if it does I cannot see why there would be another one as a part of the 10 pin.

If you have a multimeter you could set it to 12v, and ground the ground lead, then look for any red, orange, or yellow wires coming from the 10 pin connector, turn the car to ACC, or ON, then test the wires till you find the one that have 12v, once you find it try turning the key to off, then opening the doors, when you find the one with 12v that cuts off when you do this, then that is the wire you want to use for you aftermarket stereo'* switched power wire.
Once you find it I am not sure of a great way to tap into it, they make t-taps that you can use to keep from needing to cut the wire, but I am not a fan of the t-taps.
I'd just use the ATC type tap that Justin linked you to, and run a wire from the switched power at the fuse box.

That was probably the easiest way to do it, glad it is working for you now.

I'm trying to install this aftermarket stereo in my century. (No OnStar) I've used two different wire harnesses, and everytime I hook the aftermarket head unit to my car .. nothing. It won't even turn on.. but if I unhook it, and hook the stock unit up right after, it works perfectly fine. What am I having this problem??? There are two male harnesses that plug into the stock unit. Obviously, there'* nowhere to plug the second one into the aftermarket unit. It has two wires, one black striped, and one brown striped. I'm assuming the second harness is for the TheftLock on the stock unit?? Idk. But this is killing me. I've tried 3 times now to install this thing and just cannot make it work. I have found nowhere that explains it. Is there something I need to do with the second wire harness?
I just went to best buy today and they told me it'* a class two radio....no matter what u do with that clip u cannot get power to your radio...its not "smart" enough he said cuz they need the motherboard. .best buy has a clip that is 100$ and it will turn it on because your car computer doesn't want to supply power to it....but he told me to either pay 100$ or I could take the power wire and wire it to the ignition switch...on one wire that is on when the key is on, and off when the key is off. Hope I helped....btw, he said it could cause the airbags to not deploy and seatbelts to not tension up during an accident and he said it would be illegal.....but then again. They want that 100$, so who knows how truthful it was.
