Default Need Help – 1995 Buick Park Avenue Ultra Supercharged Random Stalling Issue

Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and seeking help with my 1995 Buick Park Avenue Ultra Supercharged. I live in Turkey, where only five units of this model exist, and mine is one of them. Unfortunately, there are no experienced mechanics who truly understand these cars.
I have been working on my Buick for the past seven months, but I still haven’t been able to solve an issue that started recently. The car randomly shuts off—sometimes within 1 minute, sometimes after 5 minutes. Occasionally, the Check Engine Light flashes right before it stalls.

Parts Replaced & Checks Performed:

  • Fuel system: Replaced fuel pump and fuel filter.
  • Sensors: Crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, MAF sensor, idle air control (IAC) valve, oxygen sensor (O2), and coolant temperature sensor.
  • Ignition system: Replaced spark plugs and spark plug wires.
  • Electrical system: Checked alternator, installed a new battery, inspected all fuses and relays.
  • ECU & Security system: Checked ECU and Body Control Module (BCM); bypassed the PassKey security system.
  • Vacuum system: Replaced all vacuum hoses (concerned about whether I used the correct sizes).

Despite all these replacements, the issue persists. I am also unable to retrieve error codes because my car does not have an OBD-II system. Instead, it has an OBD-1.5 system with GM’* ALDL (Assembly Line Diagnostic Link) interface, which cannot be read manually or with a standard OBD scanner. I do not have the necessary electronics to extract error codes.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance or diagnostic steps you can recommend. Thank you in advance for your help!

How many miles (or kilometers) on this car?

Does the oil pressure gauge read normally?

Is the battery the proper size and output rating for the car?

Are we talking 1-5 minutes at idle in Park or while driving?

If while driving, is this while accelerating, maintaining speed, coasting, or braking?

Engine warmed up or cold?

Hood open or closed?

What lights come on after it stalls?

What does the voltage gauge show after it stalls?

What does the coolant temperature gauge show after it stalls?

Were any of these diagnosed as bad? . . . or were these just being swapped to attempt to solve this issue? . . . or . . . ? Not criticizing, just trying to figure out possible fact patterns.

/\ /\ /\ What'* the deal with these super long plug wires?

/\ /\ /\ Why don't these plug wires match?

/\ /\ /\ Have the wires going into this connector been modified?

/\ /\ /\ Why are all of these wires bare and/or clipped and/or twisted together?

Thank you for responding to my message. I initially uploaded an old photo just to show the engine model. Now, I am sending the most recent photo, where you’ll notice that the spark plug wires have been replaced. The wires appear twisted because I was testing a sensor to check if it was functioning properly.

As for the other sensors I replaced, I wasn’t sure which one was causing the issue, so I decided to purchase all of them at once from the U.*. and replace them altogether. Additionally, I forgot to mention that I also replaced the fuel pressure regulator and oil pressure sensor.

I am now sending you a video of the issue I am experiencing. The problem occurs regardless of whether the engine is cold or hot, or whether the hood is open or closed. Sometimes, the engine stalls at idle, and other times, it shuts off randomly while driving. Even when I press the gas pedal, the engine still dies. When this happens, the dashboard needles and lights go out momentarily before the engine abruptly shuts off.

I appreciate any insights or recommendations you may have.

Best regards,

Are we losing fuel or ignition? Do you know how to test?
If you just throw parts did you replace the ignition module? It'* underneath the coil pack.

Ignition modules fail in this way. Even if you had a way to test it it would not mean much when it'* intermittent.
I'm done here.

Okay good to have the videos. It almost looks like maybe something is shorting out . . . ? Just a guess at this point.

Remaining questions from above:

Is the battery the proper size and output rating for the car?

If while driving, is this while accelerating, maintaining speed, coasting, or braking?

Engine warmed up or cold?
