95 park avenue runs fine but still get a check engine light
Hi.
I own a 95 Park avenue Ultra.
I have replaced all ignition related parts on my 1995 Buick and still get a check engine light.
I have diagnosed the car with TunerproRT and still get the same two codes on the car P0321 18x interrupt and P1361 Est line not toggling.
I have changed everything ignition related, even checked if the camshaft still has the magnetic pickup inside.
The car was stumbling and coughing badly when hot on acceleration, but the new ICM has solved the issue.
Anyways, the only thing that I suspect can still trigger this is a bad O2 sensor B, downstream. It froze at .4V and is a flat line when compared to the Throttle position.
Still I am suspecting a bad ECU as the one in the car is already a reman. AC Delco unit.
Is there a place I should check for a bad wire?
There is a black wire that goes to the ICM that was stripped for some kind of testing, but that alone shouldn't be able to trigger bad 18x readings. Or can it?
Anyways, I will update again once I replaced the O2 sensor and the ECU.
P0321 - CPS range performance
P1361 - ICM low voltage
Odd for both to happen at once. I'd check electrical system voltage, but since you already have the CPS off, may as well replace it because it'* a pain to deal with. Maybe you have already?
I can't see an O2 sensor generating those codes, but maybe I'm missing something.

Hi!
Yes, all the following ignition related components have been replaced:
-Throttle position sensor
-Idle control valve
-Cleaned the MAF
-Spark plugs
-Spark plug wires
-Coils
-Ignition control module
-Camshaft position sensor
-Crankshaft position sensor
In addition the car has had its oil changed. The oil filter and fuel filter.
Other corrective maintenances performed was a thorough 10x Cooling system flush. With cleaning agents and evaporust.
Sanded Down the ICM baseplate from all corrosion and cleaned the grounds underneath it.
Checked the interruptor rings on the harmonic balancer and both seem to be in good shape.
I will receive a new ECM in the coming days and I hope it addresses the issue. If not, I will check the Electric systems manual for the 1994 park avenue and take the car to a mechanic specialized in electronics.
Your only problem is the CEL being on? That system requires special software to read it. Do you have a scan tool that will read the live data?
Hello, yes, as far as diagnostic tools the only I one have available in my country is TunerProRT and a homemade ALDL cable. Was able to erase the codes but they will always re appear on the second engine start.
Some people in Spain sell Chinese copies of the Tech2 but I doubt spending hundreds of dollars will get me any further. I still suspect a bad ECU but wouldn't be surprised if changing it wouldn't fix the CEL.
I have a P0321 18x interrupts lost and a P0361 EST Line not Toggling, And Periodically the traction control OFF light
Car runs and drives fine but has pretty bad gas mileage. ( Original issue was jerking, engine reving up and down like a stalling bus, revs not climbing all the way to 5000 and lack of power but replacing ICM fixed it )
Components that have been replaced:
-Crank Sensor
-Cam Sensor
-IAC
-MAF (Original one was fine returned the reman)
-TPS
-Spark plugs
-Plug Wires
-Ignition Coils (Blue Streak)
-ICM
I have tried swapping the ECU. no check engine light this time, but the car randomly shuts the ignition off for a brief mili second while driving and the change oil soon illuminates and shuts off after 10 seconds, but after some more driving it happens again. If you are stationary and the engine is idling. and for some reason you get that milisecond of ignition cutoff the engine stalls and shuts off. also Alternator voltage reading is irregular and is surprisingly affected by the hazard lights.
At this point I am just throwing money at it and I'm trying remanufactured ECU'* until one works.
Clean the throttle body? SC ok? Back pressure? Throwing parts at it is not wise.
You can find the problem with the ignition if they have a scope.
What are you trying to fix right now?
What kind of scan tool did you use? The P0361 is not a valid code for this vehicle.
Alldata Editor Note: There is one in particular after market Scantool that still has not been updated and generates these and other Invalid DTC codes.
We've talked with numerous Alldata users, and they've told us that the work-around is to use the DTC description, and find a code that matches it. A number of our users have used Code P1361 (close match to P361) when the description matches an Ignition Control Problem.
Our suggestion is:
1. If you have a second Scantool in the shop from a different manufacturer, it will probably read the Datastream correctly and generate a proper code.
If you don't have access to a second Scantool,
2. Call you Scantool manufacturer and let them advise you on a proper course of action.
It has been so long I started another Thread without remembering i had this one still active.
Unfortunately this kind of scanner/Reader does not have a crank re-learn program. Someone who knows hexadecimal coding would have to code a new Macro to be able to send this command to the ECM via TunerProRT
In this time that has elapsed I have changed the ECU with a Delphi Remanufactured unit, NO MORE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE CAR NOW SHIFTS INTO OVERDRIVE? is a hard shift tho.
TROUBLE IS, this new ECU started to act up as well. IT CUTS OFF THE IGNITION INTERMITTENTLY while driving and even at idle shutting the engine off. you can visibly see the volts drop and the dash light up like a christmas tree (it also lights up the ''CHANGE OIL SOON'' LIGHT???? )it then turns off after 10 seconds but the issue come back again.
I am pretty lost, gonna perform the DCT checks the manual says to check voltages of both sensors and see what is going on. Still puzzles me why the TRACTION CONTROL OFF light is also involved sometimes...
