Buick is a 2006 Lucerne, I need a replacement key and fob. Car has remote start function on existing fob- can I replace it with the other oem fob available without the remote start button (half the price)?

Never use that feature. Also, is this a dealer only program for a new one, or can owners do it themselves?

As far as a new key goes, those are simple to program....takes all of 5 seconds.....

But the key fob is a whole different story.....that has to be programmed by the dealership.....

And why don't you use the remote start feature, especially in Chicago in the Winter time? You can't beat getting into a warm car in the middle of winter.....

I am not sure a remote without remote start can be programmed, because each remote is matched to the receiver in the car.....

Thanks for the reply. OK, the new key will be no problem. The fob question will have to be answered at the dealership, I think. Just wanted a cheaper spare fob without the start feature if I can do that. Car is always garaged, and I just don't care for the remote start feature- second owner here, car came with it.

In the winter time, it may be garaged at home, but you have to park it at a store, friend'* house, etc., with no garage......my wife thinks it'* the greatest thing, since, well, me!

How'* this for timing? Yesterday'* tv show Motorweek with John Davis, did the usual Pat Goss'* Garage segment. First subject was replacement GM key fobs. He purchased a Dorman brand for his own car- it comes with a separate programmer. Don't have to go to the dealer. I suspect that I will need a 5 button fob with the remote start- I'm still investigating.

Locally I made some calls re my PK3 system FOB.
What I discovered is that some auto locks smiths can make the key with special programmers they own, & supply a new available FOB for a reasonable price.
$50 for key and $60 for FOB all set up ready to go.

For our Park Ave'* you can easily do it yourself, for 96' to 99'*.
I just got this FOB, went with red to closer match my cars color, I see they have a blue..

You just run a jumper wire from obd port pin 8 to pin 4, turn key in ignition to ON< listen for locks to cycle, then hold down lock/unlock on each FOB till locks cycle, then turn key to Off, pull jumper wire and test them.
I was done in no time, it was simple to do.

Oh wait, just seen they needed the key and the FOB, I read it wrong at first, back to my coffee...
