My 95 Lesabre has been on and off having problems when I try and maintain speed. It will lurch sometimes a few repeated blasts. If I pump the gas, or accelerate more than just lightly holding down the gas, it wont do it, but when I'm maintaining speed on the freeway, after a while it will do it. It also recently started having issues starting and it takes several tries. This, too, is on and off. Then, a few times, when lurching, the "check engine" light has come on.

So I bought an OBD cable from ALDLCables.com for my OBD1.5 car. I've tried nearly every program they listed to get it working, and have found TunerPro RT the only currently functional options. All I'm trying to do is get the error codes! But after all the work of figuring out how to use the program, there is supposed to be an Error Codes drop-down box to list them in the program'* "Items Menu" and there is not, just a "Default View" with lots of information flashing all over.

I've attached the definition files I used and a brief log file. I've suspected I could potentiall need the $5B or $5B7 but I've got conflicting information on which I need. I also can't find the $5B7 for TunerPro RT. I have a V6 engine.

If there'* another way to get the codes using my cable, please let me know. I bought it to save me a trip too the mechanic just to read the codes, but now the hours I've poured in are worse off than I was when I started...

Unfortunately, most code readers, scanners, programs CAN'T read OBD 1.5.....only top end scanners, like a GM Tech II can....need to read that code for a starting point, but I am a little suspicious of the MAF......when it won't start, disconnect it and try to start....if it starts, shut the car off and reconnect...if it doesn't start, that looks like your problem.....

Unfortunately again, those MAF'* are expensive...aftermarket are cheaper, but unreliable.....I have had failures right out of the box, and within a few days of installation....

But like I said, first step is to get that code........

Actually, if you have a cable modified to read OBD 1.5, it'* supposed to be very easy, someone just has to have made the right interpretation of the data for your specific car. Many people with OBD 1.5 have gotten this cable to work fine, they just needed a proper .xdf and .afx file, and I think the one on EFI Gearhead forums is just incomplete, sadly.

I use to have that cable. Pain in the *** most of the time.

Actron has a scanner that will do 1.5, but requires the special cable. It takes a rocket scientist to navigate and understand Actrons website to understand which one is which.

I recently swept an Actron CP9145 myself for $40. They usually came with OBD2 cables, which is what you would need for that. Pulls codes off lickety split. I also picked up the OBD 1 ALDL cable for another $20. If you keep your head low and on the lookout, you can get it pretty cheap. It'* considered a dated tool, because I don't believe it reads CAN BUS. However, it does pull live data on OBD 1 and 2.

As far as software, I believe you will want to make sure it does GM OBD 1, because as I understand it, it'* essentially OBD 1 communication protocols on an OBD 2 connector.

While it is essentially a OBD2 port with OBD1 codes, I've read from many people that if a scanner doesn't clearly state that it reads OBD1.5 codes, it likely doesn't. There'* some extra data sent in addition to usual OBD1 information that confuses readers not designed for it...

tunerpro gets the job done, just need the right ADX. leaving for work now, but reply to this when you can and i'll check my archive to see if I've built that ADX already, if not, it'* likely I can put it together with a few minutes work.
