Default 2001 Century - PS Pump

Had a funny noise (almost like a bad bearing sound), and saw the tensioner jumping around a little bit. Changed the tensioner and the sound is still there. With a stethoscope I listened in and it sounds like bad bearings in the power steering pump so that will be my next part to change.

Does anyone have an input on this issue or instructions on how to change the power steering pump on this car?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mick

Removing the power steering pump is pretty simple.
CAUTION! The engine oil pressure sensor is in the vicinity of the power steering pump. It doesn't take much to break it.

1. Jack up the right front wheel and remove it and remove the plastic splash shield to access the engine.

2. Place a drip pan under the engine because you need to disconnect 2 lines from the pump. One line is just clamped onto the reservoir and the other is bolted to the pump itself. I think that is a 5/8", but don't hold me to that.
Pretty easy so far eh?

3. Now, using a 15mm wrench or socket wrench, remove the serpentine belt.

4. Now spin the power steering pump pulley and you will see 2 bolts through the holes in the pulley. One is at 12oclock and the other is at 6 oclock. They are 13mm. Remove those and your all done.

Installation is the reverse of removal. I will have to dig up my Alldata to see what the bleeding procedure is.
