I am working on a 99 buick century with the gm 3.1. I just did the head gaskets and replaced everything on my way to the heads. i had a machine shop machine the heads and replaced the valves. The only thing im not 100 percent on is weather the push rods went back on the right side. to clarify it is possible that i put the back set on the front and the front set on the back. The issue im having with it is that when i started it i could hear a hard knock that gets worse if the throttle is opened i also noted some smoke coming from the oil fill cap. the knock seems to be isolated to the drivers side and thw car is also throwing a 303 (misfire 3rd cylinder) code. so has anyone else had this problem? im not really sure what to do next... thanks for reading.

While it is best to keep them in the same place, the real danger is mixing up the long end push rods with the shorter ones.

Exhaust valves get the long push rods.....

are u sure? while i was doing the repair i could have sworn the push rods were all the same lenght

nvm i looked at my pics and they do appear to be differeent sizes

Intake push rods are smaller......hope you didn't mix them up....

i shouldnt have man its going to suck opening the engine again
