1999 buick century transmission
I have a 1999 buick century that does not go into first gear, even manually, set codes for shift solenoid A. Will a shift solenoid prevent from going into first? it has 4t60e,

Yes it will. If you drive the car with a bad solenoid A, it will start in 2nd and shift to 3rd, but it will never go to 4th.
Just verify that you have power going to Pin E on the transmission case connector.
