Default Heads up display problems

Hello all, does anyone else here have a car with the heads-up display? My GXP has one and it bounces all over the place. What I dont understand is, its the same one as was in my '02 Grand Prix GTP, and my girlfriends GTP,neither of those ever moved. I have taken it to the dealership where they replaced it. The one that they replaced it with shakes more than my original one does. When I took it back one of the techs and I took the car for a drive and he agrees that the shaking is distracting but there isnt anything else he can do. So then we took a new GXP for a ride and the heads-up did the same thing in the new car. After that ride the service manager pretty much told me that it was a problem with all of the GXP'* and there was nothing they could do about it. A call into Pontiac didnt do me much good either. So my question is: Does anyone else have this problem??

The service tech told me that he tightened the unit and took the dash apart and tightened everything he could. It looks like there might be a mirror that is loose inside. I've even tried driving while holding it down. No help there either....

o0o0o, the adjusting mirror is loose.... Maybe install some sort of tube to the adjuster to hold it tight. I think the 04 would have the electric adjuster, so it must be inside the Hud control unit itself... Shouldn't be hard to pop that out and look into it. Of course you'r probably throw anysort of warranty right out the window too....

Thats a tempting fix... The guys at the dealership tell me that they cant go into the unit at all, they have to replace it totally. I guess they dont want to order a third unit for me... Any other suggestions?

They can't go into the unit? What bums. I made two HUD'* into one for the swap into my car. The electronics from one and the case from another. You still have the old one? That would be nice and you could get a close look at the adjusting mechanism.

Yeah, I was kind of irritated. :? They did tell me that if Pontiac ever issued a fix for it they would give me a call! I dont have the old one, it had to go with the car when I turned in the lease...

Well, How confident are you that you can pop it out and have a look?

I'd bet the adjusting mecanism isn't made to very tigh specs, and that causes your troubles.

Not confident at all... Id almost rather just turn off the HUD than attempt to fix it.
