In an sq competition, people judge the Sound Quality of the stereo. In db drag competitions, microphones measure the Sound Preasure Level of the cars.

In Sound Quality comps, you have your car setup exactly how you want it, then the judges use an IASCA CD or something like it, to listen to in your front seats (maybe rear too). They also judge things like system layout, design, originality, ease of use etc. They measure how flat your frequency repsonse is as well.

And in all fairness, a proper SQ setup can play music, musically louder then any SPL setup.

I just looked up all the USACI, MECA, and SLAP show for the Chicagoland area. There'* about 15 show that I could goto. Try to goto atleast 8-10. There'* 6 of them at Great lakes Dragway, My local 1/4 mile strip.

I'll be entering SQ in all of them, might go for a car show or two and try for cleaniest engine or something like that.

http://www.mecacaraudio.com has good list of rules, all info on the left or SQ or SPL

BTW when you enter in SQ you still get tested by a SPL meter. SQ cars get one shot and should be above 130, per rule book. I hit 139.X so close to the 140 level, just need to tune it some and figure out my cars frequency. I want to track down somebody that has a meter and pratice, also want to find a RTA machine and have somebody help flaten out my curve.

SQ is the way to go. One note wonders are no fun as daily drivers.
