Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

what is it with my luck?

I do have the specific wire harness and it cost me $70 for it. If you just hook up the headunit to the red accessorry wire on the harness the radio will be on 24/7. Y ou see, this harness had a ditital interface box that would interperet the car'* data signals and it was able to energize the accessory wire when the time was appropriate. that box isn't working on my harness anymore.. so.. I have to come up with my own accessory wire. I am using the rest of the wires on the harness though such as all speaker connections, ground, and constant hot wire..

ok, I have a solution. My cigarette lighter is on only with my ignition and stays on for 10 minutes after the ignition is shut off regardless of if the door is opened or not. This means the radio can still be playing after the key is taken out, and the door is opened.. but it'll shut off 10 minutes later. it'* better than nothing though and atleast it'll still stay on 10 minutes after I shut the car off, and it'* a fused wire and located directly under my radio. I just gotta figure out how to disassemble my center console to get to the wiring.

I'm not so sure that'* a good idea. Convient but not the best. What happens if that fails.....and stays on and you don't know it? Dead battery....boom there you are in -20* 11 at night in a parking lot by your self. I would try and make it work off of something that turns off when the door is opened on the retained power circut. My $.02.

I'm pretty sure that the power is controlled by the same module that controls the Retained Accessory Power. If it failed it wouldn't be only the cigarette lighter that stays powered but also the factory radio would, power windows, sunroof, etc.
