Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

what is it with my luck?

Default what is it with my luck?

wow. I swear every peice of audio equipment I've been getting lately is going on the fritz! If you remember I had an Infinity Basslink defective from the factory. I got that replaced and it'* been fine for 2 weeks now. Well, today I went to replace my factory Headunit with a pioneer unit. I got my dash pulled all apart, got the radio out, and plugged in my Metra GMRC-04 harness. I put the radio fuse back in and closed the door. What do I hear? chime chime chime. the damn chime won't shut off! I turn the radio on to see if it works, and it does.. sounds great even though the chime is continuously going! I cycle the ignition a few times to see if I can get the chime to go off, and success! the chime stopped going off... and now the headunit doesn't get any power from the interface! argghhhh. why... why! this just sucks.

so reconnet your stock radio and mount it somewhere out of the way under the dashboard. Re run all wires for your aftermarket HU and enjoy it.

the DIC says 14.9 volts with the car running. I could just use the wire harness that came with this unit and run my own accessory wire. ONly problem is that ALL the components in my car are activated via a data signal. there'* no way to tap into any wires that I know of that'll give me power only when the ignition is on ACC or RUN. if such wires exist, I have no idea where I'd tap into them at . :(

ok, so I just had an idea come to me.. if alls I need is an accessory wire to make this work then couldn't I just tap into the positive power wire for the power windows that goes into the door jamb and get my 'accessory' power from there? My power windows work with the 10 minute retained accessory power, and also work in either the Accessory, or RUN position on my ignition switch.. hmm. unless of course the integration module in the door controls the power windows similar to how the raido controls various other things in the car.. that would suck!

Power windows will have a strong feed, but i would rather do it by the main fuse area. Maybe tap into the feed into power windows.

14.9? Seems a little high, but you shouldn't be having too many problems from that.
