Head Unit Install on 2000 Bonneville
I just bought an '02 Bonneville SE 3 weeks ago and I just decided to put my stereo equipment back in. Little did I know the surprise I was in for. I went to 4 different audio locations here in Phoenix and none of them had the harness. I finally found one, now Im just struggling with getting the thing wired up.
Wanted to share my experience on my head-unit install. I first went to Circuit City for the install since they installed this unit in my last car. They said that the harness would cost $120.00 for my car. I was like, too much money at that time. I then went to Best Buy and he had a harness for $15. The harness specificallly stated it was for NON-factory amplified sound systems. He also said that $120 harness from Circuit City allowed you to keep chimes, Onstar, etc. I told him i didn't need and wouldn't use Onstar, so the $15 harness would be fine.
He ran a fused wire from the ignition switch to the harness, and then a fused power wire from the amplifier to the fuse box under the back seat. Works and sounds like a dream with no interference.

ya theres a harness out there not sure of price. but will let ya still have everything minus steering wheel contols. and if ya buy it from best buy or circuit city they will install it for ya too.....
I've got a 7" Alpine double din in my 03' SSEi which should be the same. I have tons of modules and wires though, (sirius, bluetooth, door chimes, navigation) so I ended up taking a dremel and cutting out the entire back plastic panel, and a good portion on the bottom so I had a path to run wires down underneath the radio.
I just completed an install of a Pioneer DEH-P6700 and I have a 7700 coming in the mail and that thing was a bi**ch! We had to run around and find the right connector, which cost me another $25. Then the RCA wires had to be run through, and it was a pain in the *** too.
I have had everything wired up for months now and cannot figure out what is going on wrong?!?!?!? I had everything hooked up correctly i thought but it worked for about 2 hours on a road trip (a day after hooking it up) and my subs just quit working. I stopped turned the car off and back on and it worked again for approx. 5 minutes and off it stayed. Now the amp i was using is an older xplod amp which i was told is a good amp and it does have all the lights for overcurrent, etc. none of them lights came on. Im trying to run 2 15s audioipipe dvc 4 ohm at 450 watts per sub. When i did put a different amp on it i was taking out the HU and it suddenly popped on for a sec. So could it be my ground trying to get to much power off my HU? The amp turns on and you have to get very close to realize there is sound coming from the subs. It is a power acoustik HU which is a joke but i got it an stuck with it for now. I had to use a male to 2 female adapter for my rca cables as well. I know the bonneville can be a little screwy with wiring but could someone point me in the right direction????? Dam i hate not having my sounds
