Default Tach dies, now having trouble starting...

Ok guys, just need some advice on what to tell the dealership when they tell me they can't duplicate the problem :?

Did some research, and what I would tell them with my limited knowledge is that I think they should check out the crank sensor.

Symptoms:
*For the last 3 months, my tach has intermittently just "died" while driving down the road. Anywhere from 45-70mph. No other issues at first, just a dead tach.
*2 mos ago: Started throwing on the SES light when the tach died. Went away after every restart.
*This week: Having trouble starting her up. Don't seem to hear a full "crank" sound. When she finally starts going, it'* rumbly at first, then idles fine. The first few cranks were accompanied by the dead tach. I was able to start her normally and get her to the parking garage. I'll see what happens in the morning. There was not, (and isn't always) an SES light today...

So what do you all think?

If you take it to the dealership and it is the crank sensor they likely will know when they scan it..When mine was stalling there was no ses light, finally one time it did and I retrieved the code for crank sensor.Does it actually stall on you.

No, luckily no stalling yet. My mom'* coming out next week from Michigan, and she wants me to drive her to Seattle. That'd be the time it starts stalling.
I forgot to mention I checked the #19 fuse under the hood as was suggested in anther post, no luck there.
I'll take 'er in on Mon. or Tue. and see what we can find...

Not sure if the system is the same on the 2K models, but I would check the tach output from the ignition control module. In fact, I would check the ICM for any corrosion that has built up under it and to see if the harness going into it is fine before taking it in.

Those are the exact same symptoms my Bonneville had with a bad crank sensor...exactly. When I fixed it, all the symptoms went away.

Thanks fbody. That'* the conclusion I came to. I'm gonna bite the bullet and take it in on Mon just to make sure it gets done right. I don't have the time or the tools right now. I'll keep you all updated. Does anyone have any labor time estimate for such a job? Just so I know how bad GM tries to rip me off

I just had mine done and the part at dealer was roughly $70 and with install total was $290.Dont forget that was canadian dealer and about $30was tax.You will probably have to add charges if they scan it with tech 2. I thought I knew for sure mine was crank sensor and told them not to scan it just to change it.
You do have some crank sensor sympyoms but you may want to check what Sandrock is saying first, or let the dealer diagnose it, it is possible it may not be crank.Go to autozone and have code read first for free.

The tach going to zero is a dead givaway for a crank sensor....

Yep, they diag'd it and got P0336. Changed the crankshaft sensor and that was it.
Sensor - $65
Labor - $300
Finding out my extended warranty expired 2 weeks ago - Priceless.

At least you got it fixed in one try. You could have tried many other things, still had the problem and out a bunch of money.
