Default Paint bubble

I'm PO'ed at GM about the quality or lack thereof of the paint on my car. I happened to look down at the front edge of my hood last night and the paint is bubbling in one area. I was never happy with the paint to begin with since on the hood, it looks like someone put their hand on it before painting but I decided not to have the dealer do a repaint since I figured I might be worse off.
This car has been babied and other than this bubble, has absolutely no dents or dings since I don't let my wife drive it. Granted I live in the general Chicago area but it is washed 2-3 times a week. How the paint could blister is beyond me since I see no evidence of a rock chip or bumber bash.
Oh well, another summer project.

I have the same bubble on the edge of the hood nose. I do have a few rock chips though, I hope I can get it chip repaired as a new paint job is out of the question this year.

I'm lucky in that I can do my own painting(and if I take my time, better than GM'* robots). It is just the principle of it. I looked a little further and am hoping that water isn't collecting inside the hood and rusting from the inside out. Then I'd really be pissed.

The hood can't rust it'* alluminum. This is a common problem. I had it on my 2000 SLE and had it repaired under warranty before it was totalled. This time around I went for the SSEi.

Chris, thank you very much for the information. Not only didn't I realize that the hood was aluminum, I certainly didn't know there was a service bulletin.
I'm hoping the corrosion warranty is different from the drivetrain warranty since I'm past that in both time and miles.

I believe they use a different primer for the aluminum hoods, as well. This may be the reason bra'* and hood protectors damage the paint on the 00+ models so easily.

THanks for the heads up on the bulletin. Seems I need to paint the hood to cure the corrosion in the gm service bulletin :?

I hot footed it to the dealer after work and was pretty surprised to have their body person say I needed a new hood. The service manager has to clear it with GM so we'll see what develops.

The nose of my hood has started getting bumpy. 2000 SSEi
I never had a bra on it, and the only stone chip is 3 feet away.
It'* disappointing to see such a nice car start to rot!
