HVAC Control head
Hi all,
I posted this over on the Bonnie site so I thought I'd post here too...just in case more eyes will see it.
My 01 SSEi is acting up. AGAIN! The AC stops cooling for no reason. This has happened several times before. Replacing the A/C & Heater Control (dash controls with the temp and fan control ***** and buttons) always fixes the problem but it returns. I am on my 4th unit now and today that 4th one went out once again. The first time I found a used 1 but it didn't last long so I went dealer for the 3rd unit to get a warranty. That lasted almost a year and crapped out. Luckily it was still under warranty so they replaced it with this 4th unit which has lasted almost 3 years now.
Has anyone else seen this problem? I'm thinking there must be another component in the HVAC or electral system that is taking out these units with such regularity.... I've searched the recalls and SB'* but found nothing.... So I thought I would check with the forum where bonnie lovers hang..... Any help, insight, or thoughts would be appreciated. These things aren't cheap unless you go used.... and that didn't work out for me, as stated above.
I just went out and the AC was working. I had it cranked down to 60 degrees and it about ran me out of the car. I adjusted the temp up to about 72 and it quit working (cooling) completely....only the fan was blowing.
I turned the temp back down right before I got out of the car and went into Lowes for about 15 minutes... I came back out and the AC almost froze me out again..... This time I didn't turn the temp down but merely lowered the fan speed. When I did the AC again stopped cooling....but the fan, as before, ran normally.
This is really frustrating...Someone suggested pressure switch but I would't think adjusting the fan speed would have immediately stopped the cooling.....
As mentioned earlier I've had this repaired before by replacing the control unit in the dash...but this would be the 5th unit! Something HAS to be taking these units out....I would replace it again if I could figure out the root cause for the failures which must lie elsewhere....I mean 4 failed units.....that'* just too many to be coincidence.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated....
Thanks....SC
