I had this same problem @ my local Autozone. I finally figured out you have to push lightly up and in and it worked on mine. I think those scanners are so used that the connectors dont make very effective contact. The other option is the connectors on the car are possibly dirty.

my heart goes out to all of you whom pay to have codes read and cleared in your cars.
edit: whoopse looks like my post got 'accidentally' deleted. sorry my comment didn't help the poster at all. i'll make it a point from now on to never do that again on these forums. AND on top of that when i see others say something in a thread which don't help out the author to alert an admin right away so they/there post, can be dealt with immediately. i understand now that idle comments can be hurtful and take up to much space on this forum'* webserver for them to be allowed.
